From a distance, the British Airways i360 looks like a flying saucer. Well, that is if you ignore the huge pipe going right through this disc-shaped observation tower. Despite the pipe, curiosity got the better of me, and I really do think this is probably the closest I will get to boarding an actual alien spaceship! It didn’t disappoint….Be sure to check out the video as well for more info on this curious machine. I enjoyed myself.

British Airways i360 - How From A Distance

Here is a nice short video from the team that built this marvel.

The only thing I can say for sure about the future Rolls-Royce is that it will be expensisve. Not sure I like it to be honest. It doesn’t have the super cool elastic material of the future BMW. It’s weirdly long in front with a gimmicky compartment for storing mini-suitcases?? Maybe the super rich get this car, because I don’t…But it was still interesting to go and see it.

Perhaps I’m not doing this car justice with this post. So watch the video below and see if you like it.

I finally went to check out BMW’s future concept cars. Three cars were on display: BMW, MINI and Rolls Royce. And by far I was mostly impressed with the BMW. It has a really fascinating material that changes shape to maximize aerodynamics when you are driving. BMW calls it Alive Geometry and does make the car seem more like it’s alive, almost breathing, like a wild animal. But the shape of the car, design and color is just truly wonderful to look at. Check out the pics for yourself and make up your own mind.

Front grill of BMW Future Concept Car. Notice the edges. The car looks like it's got gills and it breathes. BMW calls this Alive Geometry.

A closer look at the Alive Geometry. Also notice that the tire is fully encased in the material because the material is elastic and reshapes when you turn the wheels.

When you feel like switching off self-driving mode, here is the steering wheel :-)

BMW Future Car - Back

The back has curved rear lights giving the car a truly futuristic feel.

BMW Future Car - Closer Look

Here I am taking a closer look at this incredible piece of engineering and tech marvel.

There is so much technology in this car that it is actually difficult to explain. But here is the official video (via Car TV) to get a sense of the interior and exterior of the car.

According to BMW the car has three major selling points.

#1 Digital Companion

The digital intelligence of the BMW VISION NEXT 100 is concentrated in the Companion, which provides the driver with subtle, intuitive assistance in every situation. Perfect connectivity between the user and the surroundings enables the BMW Companion to always provide the right recommendations to meet personal mobility preferences, both during driving and outside the vehicle. - BMW

#2 Alive Geometry

The Alive Geometry of the BMW VISION NEXT 100 performs two main functions. On the one hand, it serves as an analogue display system on the dashboard, alerting the driver to incidents and objects ahead. From the exterior, the Alive Geometry is visible in the form of movable wheelhouse covers for optimal aerodynamics. - BMW

#3 Boost and Ease

In Boost Mode, the driver becomes one with the vehicle and will be able to experience even more intense driving pleasure in the future. In fully-automated Ease Mode, on the other hand, the Companion takes over all driving tasks and the interior is transformed into an individual comfort zone. - BMW

There is a lot more information on the car via the official BMW site including a virtual tour app of the car:

Chenka's First Act In Virtual Reality - It Was NOT Elegant :-)

The task was to pick up boxes and move them around! It was a simple task, but proved more difficult than first appeared. Had to first find my bearings in the virtual world.

I must admit, I’m not really a fan of the MINI. But it was interesting to see the future of this car at the BMW Future 100 show nonetheless. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. If you are interested in the MINI check out the video below plus link to the official site.

MINI Future - Doors Open and Steering Wheel

Since the MINI is not really my thing, I like the fact that BMW’s vision of the MINI is to make it a sharable car i.e. not owned by one person.

The MINI of the future no longer waits all day for its owner, but is always on the move as a mobility partner for a MINI community. - BMW
